Difference between borosilicate glass and soda lime glass

Difference between borosilicate glass and soda lime glass
Borosilicate glass is one of the most preferred in daily necessities laboratories vs soda-lime glass. This is because there is a big difference in raw materials between borosilicate and soda-lime glass.
Soda-lime glass vs borosilicate glass characteristics in details as bellows:

Borosilicate glass is made from silica and boron dioxide, which are accepted for chemical and thermal resistance properties. On the contrary, soda-lime glass is made from silica, sodium dioxide, and calcium oxide, which make it durable only at normal temperatures. The rate of silica in borosilicate glass is higher (80%) than soda-lime glass (69%) due to which it is less for breakages.
Borosilicate glass is a more advanced glass than soda-lime glass. It is an industry glass specifically developed to withstand shock thermal, chemical and mechanical conditions. It can be easily transfered from harsh cold temperatures to heat temperatures and vice versa without any breakages.

Borosilicate glass is lower Coefficient of Linear Thermal Expansion (CTE), it can resist to thermal shock,it can be made industry products which is used in hard enviroments. Borosilicate can withstand the maximum 520 degree Celsius(in short time) and 450 degree Celsius(in long time),

Borosilicate glass is harder, stronger and more durable than soda-lime glass, borosilicate glass stands second at 7.5 after diamond at 10. borosilicate glassware falls on the floor,it is possible that it won’t suffer any damages. It is also scratch-resistant and looks good as new for years.

• Borosilicate glass also has a higher resistance to acids and hence, ideal for holding acidic and alkaline solutions. Borosilicate glass and soda-lime glass can’t be resistant Oxalic acid and hot phosphoric acid.
